Who We Are
This website, 20yearsinegypt.ink, is operated by Seked House in support of Twenty Years in Egypt by D.H. Trout. If you have any questions about this policy or how your information is handled, you may contact us at trout@20yearsinegypt.ink.
Information We Collect
We collect two categories of information when you visit this site:
Information collected automatically. Our web hosting server automatically logs certain technical data when you visit any page, including your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, pages requested, and the date and time of your visit. This is standard server log data maintained by the hosting provider.
Separately, Google Analytics collects usage data about your visit, as described below. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store full IP addresses.
Information you provide voluntarily. If you contact us by email at trout@20yearsinegypt.ink, we receive whatever information you include in your message, such as your email address, name, and the content of your correspondence. We do not collect personal information through forms, account registrations, or other input mechanisms on this site, because this site does not have any.
Google Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identification technologies to help us measure and understand how visitors use the site, including which pages are visited, how long visitors spend on each page, how visitors arrived at the site, and what devices and browsers are used.
Google processes this usage data on our behalf to generate aggregate reports about site traffic and visitor behavior. This data helps us understand what content is useful, how visitors find the site, and how the site performs. Google may also use this data in accordance with its own privacy policy.
For more information about how Google collects and processes data through Analytics, visit Google's partner sites privacy information.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. This site uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
Analytics cookies. Google Analytics places cookies on your device to distinguish unique visitors, track sessions, and record page interactions. These cookies help us understand aggregate site usage without identifying individual visitors by name.
Site functionality. Standard web technologies may store limited information locally to support basic site performance, such as caching and display preferences.
We do not use cookies for advertising, retargeting, or marketing purposes.
Third-Party Services
This site currently uses the following third-party services:
Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) — for website traffic measurement and usage analysis, as described above.
Google Fonts (Google LLC) — this site loads typefaces directly from Google's font service. When a page loads, your browser connects to Google's servers to retrieve the font files. Google may collect standard connection data (such as your IP address) in the course of serving those files. For more information, see Google Fonts privacy information.
This site also contains outbound links to Amazon.com for the purchase of Twenty Years in Egypt, and to academic and institutional sources for reference purposes. When you click an outbound link, you leave this site and become subject to the privacy policy of the destination site. We do not control the privacy practices of third-party websites.
If we add additional third-party services in the future, this policy will be updated to reflect them.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above for the following purposes: to understand how visitors find and use this site; to measure site traffic and identify which content is most useful to readers; to maintain and improve site performance, reliability, and security; to respond to inquiries from visitors who contact us by email; and to detect and prevent unauthorized access or abuse of the site.
We do not sell, rent, or trade any visitor information to third parties. We do not use visitor data for advertising or marketing beyond the operation of this site.
Data Retention and Security
Google Analytics data is retained according to the retention settings configured for our Analytics property. Server log data is retained by our hosting provider in accordance with its standard practices. Any email correspondence is retained only as long as reasonably necessary to respond to inquiries or maintain records of communications.
We take reasonable measures to protect the information collected through this site, including the use of SSL/TLS encryption for all connections. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Privacy Choices and Rights
You have several options regarding the data collected through this site:
Disable cookies. You may configure your browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being set. Disabling cookies will not prevent you from viewing this site, but it will limit the data collected by Google Analytics.
Opt out of Google Analytics. You may install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to prevent Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits.
Request information or deletion. If you have contacted us by email and wish to know what information we hold from that correspondence, or if you wish to request its deletion, contact us at trout@20yearsinegypt.ink and we will respond promptly.
Residents of jurisdictions with specific privacy rights (such as the European Economic Area under GDPR, or California under CCPA) may have additional rights regarding their personal data. If you believe you have such rights and wish to exercise them, please contact us and we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your request.
Children's Privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage visitors to review this page periodically.
